The United States has warned of a possible imminent attack on Gaza, citing credible intelligence that Hamas may violate the ongoing ceasefire agreement.
In a statement, the US State Department said Saturday that it has “credible reports” indicating Hamas could launch an attack targeting Palestinian civilians in Gaza. The department added that such an act “would constitute a direct and grave violation” of the peace agreement brokered by President Donald Trump to end the two-year war between Israel and Hamas.
“This planned attack against Palestinian civilians would constitute a direct and grave violation of the ceasefire agreement and undermine the significant progress achieved through mediation efforts,” the statement said. “The guarantors demand Hamas uphold its obligations under the ceasefire terms.”
The statement further warned that “should Hamas proceed with this attack, measures will be taken to protect the people of Gaza and preserve the integrity of the ceasefire.”
