Actress Kritika Kamra has expressed concern over the diminishing presence of feel-good films in contemporary cinema, emphasizing that their absence signifies a cultural and emotional void. Reflecting on her upcoming collaboration with filmmaker Anusha Rizvi, Kamra highlighted the significance of such narratives.

Kritika Kamra calls disappearance of feel-good films a cultural and emotional loss; says, “We stopped making the kind of films that families could sit together and watch”
In a recent interview with Mid-Day, Kamra said, “Somewhere along the way, we stopped making the kind of films that families could sit together and watch. My next film with Anusha is exactly that a heartwarming story about people we all know, and relationships we’ve all lived through. It’s light-hearted, and carries subtle messages about love, change, and acceptance.”
She noted, “Earlier, Hindi cinema regularly made films whose biggest strength was their observation of everyday life, and their connection to ordinary people. Event films have their place and magic, but the disappearance of slice-of-life films isn’t just an aesthetic loss, it’s a cultural and emotional loss. These stories remind us of who we are and how we live.”
The film, also starring Farida Jalal, Sheeba Chadha, and Shreya Dhanwanthary, tells the story of a Delhi-based family navigating generational gaps and sisterhood. It marks Rizvi’s return to the director’s chair 15 years after her critically acclaimed work, Peepli Live (2010). Kamra praised the script for its humour and honesty, elements she feels are vital to reconnecting audiences with genuine stories.
As the film industry evolves, Kamra’s reflections serve as a reminder of the value of stories that mirror everyday experiences, urging filmmakers to revive narratives that foster emotional connections and cultural resonance. With this project, Rizvi and Kamra aim to bring back the charm of films that families can watch and enjoy together, highlighting ordinary life with warmth and authenticity.
