Still, now 26 years old, Brooklyn has become somewhat of a meme for how he has been relentlessly ridiculed on the internet for very publicly drifting from career to career in a bid to find his calling.
It all started when he was let go by Arsenal Football Club at 16 years old after being signed up as a youth prospect. He then had a very high-profile venture into photography, even releasing a photography book called What I See at just 18 years old, which faced brutal scrutiny and arguably secured Brooklyn’s long-running position as social media’s punching bag.
Brooklyn’s younger brothers have also dipped their toes into public-facing careers, with 23-year-old Romeo Beckham a successful model, and 20-year-old Cruz Beckham keen to venture into the music industry. The brothers also have a 14-year-old sister, Harper, who does not yet have a public profile.
And their proud mom, Victoria, was keen to defend her children’s honor in a recent interview amid the launch of her Netflix docuseries, Victoria Beckham, with the star admitting that she feels “sorry for” nepo babies in the current climate.
Victoria also said that the “industry has changed so much” that she wasn’t able to give him “any advice,” adding: “But I told him: ‘Don’t expect immediate success.’ It’s almost better if it isn’t an immediate success.”
And when the reporter suggested that Cruz, therefore, isn’t a typical nepo baby, Victoria replied: “But he is a nepo. I mean, I feel sorry for these kids that are considered nepo babies, the kids are simply the kids of their parents. It’s not their fault, give them a chance.”
