The exchange came immediately after Trump delivered remarks to world leaders following the announcement of a ceasefire in Gaza.
Video footage shows both leaders seemingly unaware that their conversation was being recorded. Prabowo referred to a region that is “not safe, security-wise” before asking: “Can I meet Eric?” Trump replied: “I’ll have Eric call. Should I do that? He’s such a good boy. I’ll have Eric call.”
Prabowo followed up: “We’ll look for a better place,” prompting Trump to again assure, “I’ll have Eric call you.” Prabowo clarified: “Eric or Don Jr.”
Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr both serve as executive vice presidents of the Trump Organisation, which has business operations spanning real estate, hospitality, and blockchain-based ventures. The company operates a golf club outside Jakarta and lists another property in Indonesia, along with a resort in Bali, as “coming soon”.
It is not clear whether the conversation referenced the Trump Organisation or potential business deals involving the president’s family. Since returning to office, Trump has faced renewed scrutiny over conflicts of interest tied to his business empire.
He handed over management of his businesses to his children, though ethics experts have said similar arrangements during his first term did not fully prevent potential conflicts.
