World Cup-winning all-rounder Yuvraj Singh came up with arguably the best birthday message for Gautam Gambhir, who celebrated his 44th birthday on Tuesday, 14 October. Taking to social media, Yuvraj referenced Gambhir’s fiery nature both on and off the field, saying that same intensity has carried over into his tenure as India’s head coach.
“Wishing a very happy birthday to the one who was Gambhir when he played for India and is now even more Gambhir while coaching for India! Lots of love, brother. Keep up the great work and have a lovely year ahead!” Yuvraj wrote.
Gambhir responded to the message, thanking “Prince” Yuvraj – a nod to his nickname from their playing days.
Yuvraj also shared a video featuring some of the most memorable moments from Gambhir’s career as both player and coach. He used Arjan Vailly – an intense, power-packed Punjabi anthem that blends folk influences with modern cinematic energy from the Bollywood blockbuster Animal – as the background track for his birthday tribute.
Former cricketers, including Harbhajan Singh, and BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla were among the many who extended birthday wishes to Gambhir.
“Your unwavering commitment to the game, relentless pursuit of excellence, and iconic contributions on and off the field have left an indelible mark on Indian cricket. Wishing you health, happiness, and accomplishments. May this year bring you even more success and fulfilment in all that you do,” Shukla wrote.
Notably, Rajeev Shukla was present at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday, where he handed over the trophy to Shubman Gill after India’s 2-0 Test series win against the West Indies.
It proved to be a perfect birthday gift for Gambhir, as India secured its first home series victory of the season under Shubman Gill’s captaincy. Gambhir was seen posing with the trophy alongside captain Gill and Kuldeep Yadav, who was named Player of the Match in the Delhi Test.
Gambhir also attended the post-match press conference in New Delhi, where reporters extended their birthday wishes to him on his special day.
