A girl has allegedly been raped by a man in Kolkata, West Bengal, and has become pregnant, a senior police officer said on Tuesday.
The accused, against whom the victim’s family lodged an FIR with the South Port Police Station, was arrested late Sunday, the officer added.
“The minor was allegedly raped multiple times by the arrested accused. She is now pregnant. The girl’s parents lodged a complaint alleging rape against the accused,” the officer told PTI.
Initial investigation revealed that the two had been in a relationship for some time, he said.
The police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and several other sections, and an inquiry into the incident is underway.
“The accused is being interrogated to ascertain how the incident took place,” the officer added.
