SPACE MADNESS: Nike has tapped Windowsen, the Chinese fashion label that dressed Cardi B at last year’s Met Gala, for an out-of-this-world collaboration on the new Air Max Muse sneaker model.

Reinterpreted through Windowsen designer Sensen Lii’s cyber-futuristic lens, the Air Max Muse emotive design is infused with a silhouette inspired by ’90s rave energy and biological structures.

Available in two colorways — silver-green and orange-blue — Lii, who has always been fascinated by transformation with his couture-like creations, said he wanted to explore what the future of sport could look like with Nike for this project.

“It’s not just in how we move, but in how we express who we are,” added Lii, who graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and has shown in Paris before.

The designer started the project with a simple question in mind: What if sport existed in a futuristic world? “I wanted to reinterpret the movement, rhythm, and power of athletes in a Windowsen way, to show how sport could evolve beyond the physical and into the imaginative,” he said.

Visual clues connecting the sneaker to the brand’s universe include a detachable alien-head lace charm, extraterrestrial symbols printed across the upper, and two-toed alien footprints hidden on the sole and insole.

A sneakerhead himself, Lii sees sneakers as a new language of identity. “They represent who you are, what you believe in, and how you want to be seen. Through this collaboration, I wanted to create something that allows people to express their individuality boldly and unapologetically,” he added.

The Nike x Windowsen collaboration will drop next month through the Snkrs app and select Nike retail stores.
