A shocking incident unfolded in Fatehpur district on Saturday night when a man allegedly shot his wife over suspicion of infidelity and then turned the gun on himself, police said on Sunday. The deceased have been identified as Mukesh Nishad (32) and his wife Gudia Devi (26).
Mukesh, who worked in Delhi, had returned to his native village a week earlier. According to police, he discovered rumours of his wife’s alleged affair with a neighbour, which reportedly led to repeated quarrels.
On Saturday night, a heated argument escalated into violence. In a fit of rage, Mukesh allegedly shot Gudia in the neck before using the same country-made pistol to take his own life, said SHO Hanuman Pratap Singh Suryavanshi.
FAMILY WAKES TO HORROR
The couple’s three young daughters and parents were asleep in another room when gunshots rang out. The children and elders raised an alarm, prompting neighbours to rush to the scene. Villagers found the couple lying in a pool of blood and immediately informed the police.
A pistol was recovered from the scene, and the bodies were sent for post-mortem, said Additional SP Mahendra Pal Singh. A forensic field unit was called to collect evidence.
RUMOURS AND TENSIONS
Locals told police that rumours of Gudia’s alleged relationship had been circulating in the area for some time, leaving Mukesh visibly distressed. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
This tragic event has left the community in shock and the couple’s children without parents.
