Former Lostprophets frontman, Ian Watkins, who once made the world dance and sing to his rock music, has died in prison. West Yorkshire Police confirmed the news that the singer had an alleged fight with his prison mates before his demise. Ian was serving a lengthy sentence at HMP Wakefield for serious offenses when the incident occurred. Authorities revealed they found him injured in his cell and announced his death. As the investigation behind the disgraced singer’s death continues, know all about his ex-Joanne Mjadzelics, who was a key figure behind his downfall from international fame to infamy.
Who is Joanne Mjadzelics?
Joanne Mjadzelics, from Doncaster, dated Ian Watkins for some time before she assumed the role of a whistleblower after identifying his dark side. Their relationship began in 2006 and continued intermittently for several years. Initially, she admitted in court that Ian’s fame and charm had enamored her. However, her views changed immediately when she began to notice his disturbing behaviour. Joanne decided to expose him and reached out to the authorities multiple times between 2008 and 2012, warning them about his activities. Yet no one heard the special constable’s pleas.
After a couple of years in 2015, Joanne Mjadzelics faced a legal battle when she was charged with several offenses related to the possession and distribution of explicit materials. However, she maintained throughout her trial at Cardiff Crown Court that her actions were part of her effort to collect evidence against Ian to expose his crimes. After nearly eight days of trial, she was cleared of all the charges by a jury. Joanne became emotional after her acquittal and stated:
“This was a vicious prosecution. I shouldn’t have even been here, just for doing the police’s job that they couldn’t be arsed to do. Do I regret meeting him? Yes, I regret meeting him, but if I hadn’t met him, then no one would have reported him, so I guess I can’t regret anything because I was the one who kept going back and going back and reporting and reporting. They did nothing,”
Later, the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) launched multiple investigations to determine why her reports were ignored for so long. Over the years, Joanne had been vocal about her efforts to stop Ian were repeatedly ignored. Her solicitor, Dale Harris, had described her hardships as “an Orwellian nightmare” where truth was manipulated against her. But despite the public criticism, the mother of one stood on her claim that she was with Ian only to prove and prevent harm.

The story about how Joanne Mjadzelics met Ian Watkins is an example of someone who seems like a hero who can turn into a villain in no time. It all began with a simple email when Joanne reached out to the Lostprophets’ website for concert details and got a personal response from the lead singer himself.
