India captain Shubman Gill heaped praise on Ravindra Jadeja and said that the team is lucky to have him in the side. Jadeja was the star of the show in the Ahmedabad Test as he scored his sixth hundred in the format and picked up four wickets in the second innings to help India to win the match by an innings and 140 runs.

Jadeja continues his rule at the top of the ICC Test rankings for all-rounders after his performance against the West Indies. Speaking during the pre-match press conference, Gill said that the quality of Jadeja is well-known as a batter, especially on spinning tracks.

Gill also praised Jadeja’s fielding output as well, making him one of the best in the business.

“A player like him, who can bat for you in Test matches at number six. And we have seen how good the quality of his batting is on the spinning tracks. I think this is the reason why he is the number one all-rounder in the world at this time. So I think we are lucky to have him in our team. Everyone knows about his fielding. His throws, his catches, his intensity during fielding. Whenever he has the ball, we have seen many times that the batsmen do not go for that second run,” said Gill.

Jadeja has been in prime form for India, especially with the bat in Tests. In 6 matches so far, Jadeja has scored 620 runs at an average of 103.33 and with two hundreds and five fifties. During this time, Jadeja has picked up 11 wickets as well.

Jadeja said that he has been working on his mental aspect, particularly in terms of his batting. The all-rounder said that he has made a few changes to his approach.

“It feels good to be contributing to the team and as far as my batting is concerned, I have worked on it mentally as well as skill-wise. I have changed my mindset a bit, I used to play with a different mindset in the past but I have made a few changes,” said Jadeja.

India and West Indies will play in the second match of the series, which will begin on October 10.
