Arturo Gatti was a professional Canadian boxer with a highly decorated career, including being a world champion in two weight classes. From 1991 to 2007, he had dominated the ring. His son and namesake, Arturo Gatti Jr., also seemed to be following in his father’s footsteps, competing in amateur matches.
However, just the boxing icon, Arturo Gatti, had left the world too soon in 2009, his seventeen-year-old son, Arturo Jr, also tragically passed away on October 7, 2025. People who were exicted to see the budding boxer take his father’s legacy forward are now shocked to hear the news about his untimely demise. The fact that both Arturo and his son died in very similar circumstances has also sent shockwaves among the fans. Here’s the cause of their death.
Arturo Gatti Jr. died by suicide at the age of seventeen
Arturo Jr.’s longtime friend and bodyguard, Chuck Zito, took to his Instagram handle and announced that the young boxer had passed away. The post also mentioned that Arturo Jr was found hanging in an apartment in Mexico. Chuck Zito’s post read:
“It’s with a heavy heart that I have to say,…. R.I.P. to 17-year-old ARTURO GATTI JR. who was found hanging in an apartment in Mexico yesterday.”
Arturo Jr. ‘s last post on his Instagram handle featured an Artificial Intelligence-generated image that showed him standing shoulder to shoulder with his father in boxing gear. The caption was a blue heart and a dove of peace emoji. This photo was posted nearly two weeks before he died by suicide. Jean Pascal, a former boxer, recently penned a heartbreaking comment on the post after Arturo Jr’s passing and wrote:
“Sixteen years after losing his father, the world loses another Gatti. The son of a legend two fighters, one legacy, both gone too soon. May they reunite in peace. My heart is heavy… life can be unfair sometimes. I’m sending strength, love, and prayers to his family.May he rest in power, like his father a true warrior. ”
Arturo Gatti had died by suicide when his son was only ten months old
Arturo Gatti and his wife, Amanda Rodrigues, were on a vacation in Brazil with their ten-month-old Arturo Jr. However, the vacation turned into a tragedy when the Canadian boxer was found dead in a hotel room. Although his wife was first arrested on homicide charges, the autopsy revealed that Arturo had died by hanging, and it was a suicide. Although there had been some disputes regarding his cause of death, a second autopsy report also revealed that there was no foul play involved.
Arturo Gatti Jr, who had only been ten months old when he lost his father, was on his way to take the Gatti legacy forward. He might have been bereft of the opportunity of knowing his father, but his skills in the ring proved that the apple didn’t fall far from the tree. However, this unexpected tragedy has hit the boxing world very hard. As Jean Pascal said, the world has lost another Gatti.
