Anil Kapoor had an interesting conversation on day 2 of the silver jubilee edition of FICCI Frames 2025 at a five-star hotel in Mumbai on the choice of his films and a lot more. He began with serious discussions on cinema, but soon entertained audiences as he opened up on some of his iconic films. He revealed that many of his well-received films also got their share of criticisms and even listed out the minuses in those films according to the critics. He, in fact, encouraged the audience to throw names of his films and in return, he spoke about what the critics had said and also shared trivia about those films.
FICCI Frames 2025: Anil Kapoor reveals that Welcome’s legendary character Majnu Bhai was inspired from Awaargi; adds, “People say, ‘Yeh Allu Arjun ka style hai’. Bhaiyya, humne pehle shuru kiya tha!”
A journalist mentioned Welcome (2007), co-starring Akshay Kumar, Nana Patekar, Katrina Kaif, Mallika Sherawat, Paresh Rawal and the late Feroz Khan. Anil said, “I have not made that painting (laughs).”
He added, “I loved playing Majnu Bhai. Sometimes, you take from your failures also. For instance, I had worked in Mahesh Bhatt’s Awaargi (1990). But if you see what I have done in that film, with the way I walked and the way I performed was a very serious version of what I played in Welcome. My walk and my swag are from Awaargi. Nobody saw that film. So, I used that in Welcome.”
He raised laughs as he said, “After Allu Arjun did the same walk in Pushpa, people say ‘Yeh Allu Arjun ka style hai’. Bhaiyya, humne pehle shuru kiya tha!” This led to applause at the venue.
Speaking about his detachable sunglasses, Anil Kapoor revealed, “There’s a history behind that as well. I was in London and one of Sunita’s friends presented me with those glasses. I used to keep losing my sunglasses. So, these glasses were handy as I could hang them around my neck as well. I showed it to Welcome’s director, Anees Bazmee, and asked him if I could use it in Majnu’s introduction. He agreed.”
