Anil Kapoor had an interesting conversation with journalist Mayank Shekhar on day 2 of the silver jubilee edition FICCI Frames 2025 at a five-star hotel in Mumbai on the choice of his films and a lot more. On the first day, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, during a conversation with Akshay Kumar, revealed, “In Nayak, Anil Kapoor ji’s character becomes a Chief Minister for just one day and yet, he manages to finish lot of work. Wherever I go, people tell me, ‘Nayak jaisa kaam karo. Unhone ek din mein kitna kuchh kar diya. Unhone kaise ek din mein duniya badal di’.” Anil Kapoor commented on it and raised laughs.

Fadnavis further said, “One day, I happened to meet Anil Kapoor ji. I asked him, ‘Aapne kyun banayi Nayak? Logon ko lagta hai ki aap Nayak aur hum Nalayak! Ek din mein itni saari cheezein kaise kar di aapne?’.” On this, Anil smiled and replied, “Aisa kuch nahin hai. There are some great leaders today doing fantastic work. Our role model, the Prime Minister, there’s so much to learn from his work ethic. I appreciate and connect with people who are hardworking. Everybody’s Layak and Nayak!”
He also said, “When I was doing Nayak, I thought it would be the biggest blockbuster. It didn’t. But it’s been more than 20 years and people are still talking about it. Yesterday, the (discussion of Devendra Fadnavis and Akshay Kumar) was of something else and it became about Nayak, which is great (laughs).”
The scene of the interview between Anil Kapoor and Amrish Puri has achieved cult status and memes are made on it, especially during the election season. Anil noted, “It keeps changing as well. You have to be very careful. Agar aap accha kaam karoge, toh aap Anil Kapoor honge! Aur agar aap gadbad karenge, then you’ll become the antagonist.”
Will there be a sequel to Nayak? Anil began by saying, “Not that I intentionally stayed from sequels but for me, it’s always the story. I have always chosen the difficult path of trying to do something which is fresh, new and progressive and which the filmmaker genuinely wants to make.”
He then said, “However, Nayak has a possibility (of a second part). The timing couldn’t be better to make a sequel to Nayak.”
