A single mother and luxury bag counterfeiter finds herself teaming up with a self-obsessed influencer to sell her bags and dig herself out of debt. That is the set-up for the upcoming original Netflix crime drama series Bad Influencer from South Africa, which will premiere on the global streamer on Oct. 31.
But on Tuesday, a first trailer for the show, the first series from the Realness Institute and Netflix’s Episodic Lab, debuted.

“When a small-time con artist and single mom, BK (Jo-Anne Reyneke), must provide for her son with special needs, she teams up with wannabe luxury influencer Pinky (Cindy Mahlangu) to sell fake luxury handbags online,” reads a synopsis for the series. “Their scheme draws the attention of Bra Alex (Vincent Mahlape), a notorious criminal in a counterfeiting syndicate, as well as law enforcement. Caught between criminals and cops, the unlikely duo must outfox both to stay out of jail, survive, and thrive.”
Created by Kudi Maradzika and Lincoln Green Media, developed by the latter, and produced by Gambit Films, Bad Influencer also features such cast members as former Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi, Thapelo Mokoena, Mpilo Shabalala, Hamilton Dlamini , Modise Motaung, Kamo Pule, Emmanuel Castis, Julia Anastasopoulos, Brendon Daniels, Aubrey Poo, Nat Ramabulana, Lerato Nxumalo , and Charlie Bouguenon.
Nosipho Ngoasheng Dumisa and Kudi Maradzika serve as executive producers on Bad Influencer,
along with Bradley Joshua, Benjamin Overmeyer, Simon Beesley, Travis Taute, and Daryne Joshua.
The co-executive producer is Daniel Zimbler. The show’s directors are Keitumetse Qhali and Ari Kruger. Kudi Maradzika and Daniel Zimbler are the head writers, with Sydney Dire also serving as a writer.
