Carlos Rodon and Ashley Rodon’s love story: How they met, two miscarriages, almost went for IVF, a rainbow baby, co-founded Carlos Rodon Foundation and Willow Grant initiative
Carlos Rodon and Ashley Paddock met for the first time in North Carolina in 2014, when he was drafted by the Chicago White Sox, and she was working in that area. According to reports, after being friends for some time, they began dating and got married in January 2018. In the same year, Ashley got pregnant, but during her 12-week ultrasound in March 2018, the doctor told her that she couldn’t find her baby’s heartbeat. It was a heartbreaking moment for the couple, as they lost their first child, a baby boy, and Ashley had to undergo a D&C procedure, which was a traumatic experience for her.
The couple picked themselves up and tried again in the following months. Luckily, on Mother’s Day, Ashley Rodon discovered that she was pregnant, and he immediately shared the great news with her husband, Carlos Rodon. Unfortunately, their happiness was short-lived as during Carlos’ rehab assignment trip, Ashley experienced her second miscarriage. After facing two miscarriages, the couple decided to go for IVF and were almost done with the documentation when Ashley discovered that she was pregnant for a third time.
The couple welcomed their first child, a baby girl named Willow, in 2020, without the assistance of IVF. Carlos Rodon and Ashley Rodon’s daughter is referred to as a ‘Rainbow baby’, a term commonly used for a baby that’s born after the parents have suffered a miscarriage. The couple also labelled their daughter, Willow, as a ‘miracle baby’ and decided to found The Carlos Rodon Foundation to help couples who struggle with similar challenges and IVF’s high costs.
Despite not using IVF, the reason why Ashley still advocates for it is that she had lost all hope after her second miscarriage, and at that time, IVF was the thing that convinced her that she could also have children. As a result, she wants to give back to the community by helping couples who are in a similar situation. Carlos and Ashley’s incredible resilience through two miscarriages speaks volumes about their strong bond as a couple, and we hope they continue to inspire other couples.
We hope Carlos Rodon and Ashley Rodon’s story gives hope to so many couples around the world who are struggling with pregnancy issues and miscarriages.
