Veteran actor Pankaj Kapur recently spoke candidly about his son Shahid Kapoor’s acting journey and his performance in the controversial film Kabir Singh. During an interaction with Lallantop, Kapur praised Shahid’s natural talent, revealing that he had given him little formal training in acting.

“For a long time, I used to tell him and others that his main potential is drama and that nobody has tapped it. He was getting only sweet boy roles. It was tapped by Vishal Bhardwaj. These films have a big role in bringing forth the actor inside Shahid later. He also became intelligent about which films to do and which not to do. He performed brilliantly in Haider, but he also performed wonderfully in Farzi,” Pankaj said.
When asked about Shahid’s performance in Kabir Singh, a film widely debated for glorifying toxic masculinity, Pankaj said, “He has also done good work in Kabir Singh. That is okay because it doesn’t mean that toxic masculinity doesn’t exist. It exists in society, and because somebody made a film on it, we started objecting to it. This is our own outlook.”
Pankaj also clarified that while he had not formally trained Shahid in acting, he did help him briefly. “No, I never trained him. He once asked for a workshop, so we worked together for 6-7 days. But he got associated with Naseeruddin Shah. He was doing a workshop in Delhi, and he was associated with him for some time,” he shared.
Speaking of the professional front, Shahid is currently busy shooting for Cocktail 2, with Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna. Meanwhile, he will also be seen in Vishal Bhardwaj’s next, which will mark their fourth collaboration. The film, titled O Romeo, will also star Triptii Dimri as the female lead.
