Bobby Deol is recently enjoying the success of Aryan Khan’s directorial debut series, The Ba***ds of Bollywood, in which the actor was seen playing the role of ‘Ajay Talvar’. In October, 2025, the Animal actor completed 30 years in the Bollywood industry and on the special occasion, he recalled his journey from his debut film and shared how he was supposed to debut with Karisma Kapoor.
Karisma Kapoor was the first choice for Bobby Deol’s debut film, Barsaat
Recently, Bobby Deol sat down for a candid conversation with SCREEN, in which he opened up about his debut film, Barsaat and shared that Twinkle Khanna was not the first choice for the film. He revealed that the film was first offered to Karisma Kapoor but since she was a little insecure about the film, she decided to debut with the film, Prem Qaidi. He was quoted as saying:
“Actually, I was supposed to start with Karisma Kapoor. But my film’s story wasn’t getting developed. The scripting was still going on. At that point, women’s careers were such that they couldn’t work for many years. That’s changed now, thankfully. So, Karisma was a little insecure, and I don’t blame her for that. So, she decided to start her career with Prem Qaidi (1991).”
In the same interview, he continued to talk about Twinkle Khanna and shared that it was destiny that the two made their debuts together. He also explained that Twinkle has always been fearless and has strong convictions, because of which she became a writer. In his words:
“I think it was destiny that Twinkle and I made our debuts together. Quitting the industry was obviously her decision. She wasn’t comfortable at all. She’s always been fearless. She has a certain attitude that you can see even now. She has a mind of her own. She has a lot of strong convictions. That’s why she’s become a writer, and she’s good at all that.”
Bobby Deol’s first film got shelved after shooting for 27 days
In the same interview with SCREEN, the Dostana actor recalled that the first shot he gave for the film was when he had to walk down a flight of stairs and smile. He revealed that after shooting for 27 days, the film got shelved as Shekhar got the film, Bandit Queen. Bobby continued to add that his father, Dharmendra wanted the film to be completed, so Rajkumar Santoshi came on board. He shared:
“I remember the first shot I gave- I had to walk down a flight of stairs, look in a particular direction, and give a smile. We shot that film for 27 days, and it got shelved. Shekhar got Bandit Queen (1994), and he wanted to do that. My dad (Dharmendra) wanted my film to get done on time. So, Rajkumar Santoshi directed my first film.”

Bobby Deol was most recently seen in the series, The Ba***ds of Bollywood and next will be seen in YRF’s Alpha, alongside Alia Bhatt and Sharvari. On October 6, 2025, Bobby Deol took to his Instagram handle to celebrate his 30 years and shared that “I’m just getting started.”
