Anshula Kapoor, daughter of film producer Boney Kapoor, recently got engaged to her longtime boyfriend, screenwriter Rohan Thakkar. The couple celebrated their Gor Dhana ceremony, a traditional Gujarati pre-wedding ritual that also serves as an engagement, in a private and intimate gathering at home.

Photos from the ceremony, shared by Anshula on social media, featured heartfelt moments and showcased the Kapoor family coming together to celebrate the couple’s special milestone. Among those present were her brother Arjun Kapoor and half-sisters Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor.
Why Anshula and Rohan Chose a Home Ceremony
In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, Anshula shared that she and Rohan had always envisioned a close-knit celebration for their engagement. “Rohan and I always imagined our Gor Dhana to be a cozy, warm, intimate celebration with family. We are so glad that’s exactly how it turned out to be,” she said. She also spoke about her father Boney Kapoor’s emotional response when she told him about her plans to get married. “When I first spoke with dad and my siblings about taking the next step with Rohan, dad was the most excited. He had just one wish—that I get married at home. So, keeping that wish in mind, I wanted our first ceremony to be held at his house. I’m grateful that Rohan and his family embraced that wholeheartedly,” she shared.
Anshula’s Outfit Honours Rohan’s Heritage
For the ceremony, Anshula chose an outfit that paid tribute to Rohan’s Gujarati roots. She wore a lehenga featuring Bandhani print, traditional Kutch embroidery, and mirror work. Keeping the moment special, she didn’t reveal the outfit to Rohan until the ceremony. “Rohan is deeply connected to his roots, and it was important to me to honour that. My lehenga reflected those influences. Rohan didn’t want to see what I was wearing until the day—and the look in his eyes when he saw me meant everything and more,” she said.
Remembering Her Mother, Mona Shourie Kapoor
Anshula also spoke about the emotional absence of her late mother, Mona Shourie Kapoor, who passed away in 2012. Since Rohan’s proposal in New York, Anshula said her feelings of grief had resurfaced strongly. “I’ve been missing mum even more. I knew I needed her close to me,” she said. To honour her mother, Anshula had “Rab Raakha”—words often spoken by her—embroidered on the back of her lehenga. “She was always my wings, my biggest support system, and I needed to feel her with me as I started this new chapter,” she added.
The Kapoor Family Connection
Anshula is Boney Kapoor’s eldest daughter from his first marriage to Mona Shourie Kapoor. The couple, who married in 1983, also had a son—actor Arjun Kapoor. Boney and Mona separated in 1996. During their marriage, Boney began a relationship with late actor Sridevi, whom he married later that same year. Boney and Sridevi had two daughters together—Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor.
