Rain washed out Match No. 5 of the Women’s World Cup 2025 between Sri Lanka and Australia on Saturday, October 4, at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

The scheduled cut-off time for the 20-over clash was 8:08 PM local time, but due to the gloomy conditions at the venue, officials decided to call off the match two and a half hours early with a toss.

The rain did pause briefly, raising hopes of a start, but once it resumed, it showed no sign of letting up. Thick clouds remained over the ground, with no hint of blue skies in sight.

Meanwhile, the weather in Colombo has cast doubt over the marquee clash between Harmanpreet Kaur’s India and Fatima Sana’s Pakistan, scheduled for Sunday, October 5.

If Sunday’s match is washed out, it would mark the first time Pakistan returns from a Women’s ODI clash against India without a defeat. The two teams currently have a head-to-head record of 11-0 in India’s favour since their first meeting in 2005.

India began their campaign with a win over Sri Lanka in Guwahati, while Pakistan suffered a seven-wicket defeat against Nigar Sultana Joty’s Bangladesh in Colombo.

Meanwhile, after the rain-affected match, Alyssa Healy’s Australia remained on top of the table with three points and a net run rate of +1.780.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, earned their first points and moved to fifth in the table, although their net run rate of -1.255 continues to rank among the worst in the tournament.
