US President Donald Trump on Friday ordered Israel to immediately stop bombing Gaza, declaring that Hamas was ready for peace after the terrorist group issued a statement partially accepting his Middle East plan.
“Based on the Statement just issued by Hamas, I believe they are ready for a lasting PEACE,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Israel must immediately stop the bombing of Gaza, so that we can get the Hostages out safely and quickly! Right now, it’s far too dangerous to do that.”
The president’s comments came after Hamas announced it was prepared to release hostages and surrender control of Gaza to a technocratic Palestinian administration, while noting that other aspects of Trump’s framework still required consultation. Hamas also thanked Arab and international mediators — including Trump — for their efforts.
The remarks represented a sharp shift in tone from earlier in the week, when Trump had issued a Sunday deadline for Hamas to accept his peace proposal, threatening “all hell will break out” if they refused.
“This is not about Gaza alone,” Trump said in his latest post. “This is about long sought PEACE in the Middle East.”
