Peaky Blinders, the historical crime drama starring Cillian Murphy, is all set to return with two new series. Cillian, who portrayed the role of ‘Tommy Shelby’, will reprise his role in the upcoming sequel. The much-loved series, Peaky Blinders, is making a grand comeback to BBC and Netflix. Following the huge success of its six-season run that ended in 2022, writer and creator, Steven Knight has now confirmed that the crime saga will continue with two six-episode sequel series, bringing a new generation of ‘Shelbys’ to the screen.
Plotline of Peaky Blinders sequel
Set against the backdrop of 1953 Birmingham, the sequel will open in a city still recovering from the huge destruction caused by the World War II bombings. Birmingham is entering a new era of reconstruction, where the city is shaping its future with large-scale rebuilding projects. The sequel will feature a power struggle, where different groups will get involved in a conflict to take over the huge rebuilding project. Writer and creator, Steven Knight, described the storyline of Peaky Blinders sequel as ‘a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz’. Speaking to Tudum, Steven shared about his excitement to announce the Peaky Blinders sequel. He was quoted as saying:
“I’m thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. Once again, it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz. The new generation of Shelbys has taken the wheel, and it will be a hell of a ride.”

Before Steven Knight brings back the Peaky Blinders sequel, the makers will release the much-anticipated feature film, The Immortal Man. Although the exact release date has yet to be revealed, the film is expected to premiere in 2026. This movie will act as a bridge between the original story and the upcoming two six-episode sequel series. Keeping the plotline under wraps, Steven, in a recent interview with ScreenRant, shared that it will be ‘really brilliant’. In his words:
“There’ll be an announcement relatively soon, and I can tell you it’s really, really, really brilliant.”

The upcoming sequel series will be produced by Kudos and Garrison Drama, the company behind the original Peaky Blinders. Speaking to Tudum, Lindsay Salt, the director of BBC Drama, shared that the series had a huge impact when it was first released in 2013, and over the years, it became a hit show. Lindsay mentioned that Peaky Blinders is one of the most loved BBC dramas. She also gave a major hint that there will be plenty of drama in the new series. She was quoted as saying:
“This game-changing show made a huge impact when it first came to our screens 12 years ago, and it is one of the BBC’s most-loved dramas. Steven has worked his magic once again, and I can’t wait for his scripts to be brought to life when filming begins in Birmingham. We are delighted to be working with Kudos, Garrison Drama, and Netflix on this epic show. There’s plenty of drama for Peaky fans to look forward to!”
