Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson are reportedly reuniting for a Netflix documentary.
The One Direction members are embarking on a road trip throughout the US for the project and it’s expected that they’ll discuss their memories of being in the boy band as well as their late bandmate, Liam Payne, the Sun reports.
Filming has reportedly already begun, and the documentary is expected to be released next year.
Malik, 32, and Tomlinson, 33, struck a multimillion-dollar deal with the streamer to do the documentary, the outlet reports.
“This will be an absolutely huge show for Netflix and is guaranteed to whip 1D’s global army of fans into a frenzy,” an source told the outlet.
“And it’s likely to be a chance for some serious soul-searching and deep discussions about the incredible journey the group have already been on since they were formed on ‘The X Factor’ 15 years ago,” the source continued.
Reps for Malik and Tomlinson didn’t immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comments.
One Direction — which consists of Malik, Tomlinson, Payne, Harry Styles and Niall Horan — went on an indefinite hiatus in January 2016, though Malik left the band earlier in 2015.
Payne tragically died in October 2024 after he fell from the third floor of his hotel room at CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Toxicology test results later showed that he had a cocktail of drugs in his system at the time of his death, including cocaine, crack and benzodiazepine.
Malik, Tomlinson, Horan and Styles emotionally reunited for Payne’s funeral on Nov. 20 in the UK.
One Direction was reportedly planning a comeback before Payne’s death at just 31 years old.
All five original members had been “in talks to do one last reunion show” before Payne’s fatal fall on Oct. 16, a source told Us Weekly.
Malik has talked about his negative experiences being in One Direction, including in his song, “Fuchsia Sea.”
Some of the lyrics include, “‘cause I worked hard in a white band, and they still laughed at the Asian.”
One Direction was formed in 2010 on “The X Factor,” when they auditioned separately but were put together by judges Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh.
All five members eventually pursued solo careers, with Styles, 31, earning the most success. He won the coveted Album of the Year Grammy for “Harry’s House” in 2023.
