Mahesh Bhatt is a phenomenal director and producer of Bollywood. Over the years, he has directed many hit films, including Arth, Aashiqui, and Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin. Along with his brother Mukesh Bhatt, the veteran filmmaker produced many blockbusters, including Raaz 3, Murder 2 and Aashiqui 2. Coming to his personal life, Mahesh has been married twice. The director fell in love with actress, Soni Razdan in the ’80s, when he was already a married man and father to two children, Pooja Bhatt and Rahul Bhatt. Now, in a recent interview, he shared how her daughter, Pooja, reacted after she got to know about his dad’s affair.
Mahesh Bhatt becomes teary-eyed after recalling Pooja Bhatt’s reaction to his affair
On a recent podcast, The Pooja Bhatt Show, Mahesh recalled how his daughter, Pooja Bhatt, reacted after knowing about his affair with actress, Soni Razdan. He shared how Pooja handled the situation so maturely after he told her that he would be living in another place because there was another woman in his life. He promised Pooja and reassured her that he would take care of his first wife, Kiran, and the household. Recalling the moment, he broke down in tears. Mahesh also mentioned that he could never forget the way Pooja responded to him after knowing his extramarital affair. In his words:
“I can’t thank you enough for that expression. Because you looked at me, and I thought you didn’t judge me.”
Pooja Bhatt was the first one to know about Mahesh Bhatt’s affair with Soni Razdan
For the uninitiated, in the 1980s, Mahesh found love for the third time, following his broken relationship with Parveen Babi and his failed marriage to Kiran. In the same podcast, Pooja, the host of the show, shared that she was the first one to know about his affair with Soni Razdan. Recalling the moment, Pooja shared that the director was sitting at the edge of the bed, telling her about his new lady love. She mentioned that her father’s heartfelt confession was a privilege for her as she felt treated as an equal. In her words:
“When I saw you sitting at the edge of my bed, telling me about the woman you met, Soni and the fact that you are going to marry her and move out, I was just privileged to be treated as an equal. You told me this before you even told my mother.”
Pooja Bhatt recalls how Soni Razdan felt guilty about her relationship with Mahesh in the past
Further in the podcast, Pooja recalled how, at the time of recce for the film, Love Affair, Soni felt guilty about her relationship with Mahesh. The duo were in Coonoor at the Taj Gate when they had a heart-to-heart conversation. After Soni Razdan’s confession, Pooja reassured her that it was not her fault, as the situation was not in her hands. Pooja was quoted as saying:
“I went on a recce with Soni many years later, like around 2015, perhaps, for a film that we were supposed to do together called Love Affair. We were sitting out in Coonoor at the Taj Gate under the stars, and she told me, ‘I felt so guilty at that time,’ and she told it in such a bare manner, so I told her, ‘Soni, it’s not your fault yaar. You couldn’t have taken him away.'”
