A 3-day-old baby was found buried under a rock in a forest in Madhya Padesh’s Chimdwara. The newborn was abandoned by the parents, who are both primary school teachers, reportedly due to fear of losing their jobs after having a fourth child.

The incident came to light on Sunday night in Nandanwadi village when a passerby noticed the newborn lying near rocks in the forest close to Road Ghat. He informed the police, which arrived at the scene and rescued the infant. The baby was taken to a local health centre for initial treatment and then referred to the district hospital for further care.

The couple, Bablu Dandoliya and Rajkumari Dandoliya, works as Class 3 teachers at a primary government school since 2009. Confessing to their act they said they feared suspension or dismissal from their teaching positions because of the fourth child and hence took this step.

“The father admitted to burying the baby under a rock due to fear of losing his job. He has three other children aged 8, 6, and 4. Both parents have been arrested,” Batkakhapa Thana Incharge Anil Rathore said.

“The child is undergoing treatment at the district hospital. A case has been registered, and legal action is in progress,” Amarwara SDOP Kalyani Barkade said.
