Former Basketball Wives star Brittany Renner and NBA player P.J. Washington’s rocky relationship has once again made headlines. This time, it is not due to any new allegation, but rather because Brittany has recently moved, seeking an increase in her monthly child support payments. She now wants USD 35,000 per month. According to some court documents obtained by Us Weekly, Brittany Renner, 33, has filed for an increase in her monthly child support payments due to financial struggles. She has claimed that her income from reality TV has dried up, and moving to California has increased her cost of living.
Why did Brittany Renner and PJ Washington break up?
Brittany Renner and PJ Washington’s relationship started in 2020, and soon the couple welcomed their son, Paul Jermaine Washington III, in 2021. But the romance soon fizzled out after the birth of their son. Since then, their breakup has been marked by public disputes over the custody and support of their kids. Brittany even accused the NBA star of not providing her with financial support for their son. The fans have witnessed the co-parenting conflict.
Earlier this month, the duo’s video went viral after they had a heated custody battle, with Washington’s wife, model Alisah Chanel, present. The incident fueled online debate about the challenges of co-parenting in the spotlight. At the core of the issue is their conflict over money. Brittany currently receives $5,500 every month in child support from the former NBA star. However, she now claims that the amount was based on her living expenses in North Carolina. In her new court filing, she has argued that the support is not enough to manage California’s high cost of living. In her words:
“I am struggling to make ends meet, and I cannot provide Paul III a life anywhere similar to that of his father.”
Brittany Renner wants her son to get the same comfort as PJ Washington’s other children
According to the outlet, Brittany Renner pointed out PJ Washington’s recent USD 90 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks and his lavish lifestyle with his now wife. She claimed that the indifferent amount to her son has left him at a disadvantage. Even Brittany has revealed that she earns no steady income after her stint on Basketball Wives ended in June 2024. She revealed she has just $81 in cash and has been living in a simple Airbnb rental in West Hills.

In contrast, Brittany claims that PJ and his life are lived in a 7,304-square-foot Texas mansion, where they drive luxury cars and flaunt designer goods on the internet. She claimed that after understanding his financial situation, she believes that her son deserves a share in his father’s station in life. The reality TV contestant stated that the amount would be allocated toward housing, clothing, education, and other essential needs. Sharing his insights on the case, attorney, Patrick Baghdaserians said:
“Every child deserves the best opportunities life can afford them. For nearly 100 years, California courts have consistently maintained that the duty of a parent does not end by providing mere necessities if he or she is able to afford more.”
