Dunhill has recruited Matthew Ives, an alumnus of Dunhill’s parent Richemont, to become its chief executive officer effective Oct. 13, WWD has learned.

Ives is joining Dunhill from De Beers in London, where he spent the last three years as senior vice president, chief commercial officer.

At Dunhill, he will report to Philippe Fortunato, CEO of Richemont’s fashion and accessories maisons.

“Matthew’s deep knowledge of both the luxury industry and Richemont will be invaluable in leading Dunhill into its next chapter,” Fortunato said, disclosing the appointment exclusively to WWD. “I would also like to warmly thank Andrew Holmes, Dunhill’s chief operating and financial officer, for serving as CEO ad interim since early 2024.”

Holmes had filled a gap left when Richemont moved Laurent Malecaze over from Dunhill to become CEO of Chloé.

During Malecaze’s brief tenure at the London-based house, he recruited Simon Holloway as creative director, reinforced the brand positioning, and tweaked the British menswear brand’s operating model.

Ives takes up the reins as Dunhill is gaining momentum, and expanding its retail footprint. The company recently opened a boutique at Dubai Mall’s luxury wing, Fashion Avenue, and a corner at Harrods in London.

The brand, founded in 1893 in London, is slated to open a new location on Bond Street toward the end of 2026.

“I am delighted to be joining Dunhill and working alongside… Simon Holloway to strengthen its position as the leading British masculine luxury maison,” Ives commented.

A graduate of the University of Cambridge, Ives began his career as a consultant with McKinsey & Co. before spending over 10 years at Richemont in senior leadership roles, including as a retail director at jewelers Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels.

Richemont is primarily known for watches and jewelry, and its brand stable in hard luxury includes Buccellati, A. Lange & Söhne, Baume & Mercier, IWC Schaffhausen, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Panerai, Piaget, Roger Dubuis and Vacheron Constantin.

Its fashion and accessories maisons include Alaïa, Delvaux, Montblanc, Gianvito Rossi, Peter Millar, Purdey and Serapian.
