In today’s digital age, even a casual remark can spiral into a headline-making controversy. Filmmaker and choreographer, Farah Khan recently found herself at the center of one such storm. A lighthearted comment she made during her vlog about Deepika Padukone’s eight-hour work schedule quickly snowballed into rumours of a fallout between the two women. Adding fuel to the fire, social media users claimed Farah and Deepika had unfollowed each other on Instagram. Now, both Farah and Deepika have finally responded, putting the gossip to rest.
Farah Khan clears the air around her comment on Deepika Padukone
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Farah Khan denied any rift with Deepika Padukone or her husband, Ranveer Singh. She explained that the two never followed each other on Instagram in the first place. They had made a pact during the Happy New Year shoot that they wouldn’t communicate on Instagram, but instead they would talk through direct messages and calls. Farah further mentioned that they don’t even post birthday wishes on Instagram because Deepika doesn’t like it.
Farah also talked about her so-called ‘dig’ at Deepika’s work schedule, explaining that the remark was meant as a joke during her cooking vlog with Dilip. She further clarified that her bond with Deepika is as strong as ever. Infact, she was one of the first people who visited Deepika when her daughter, Dua was born. Farah could be quoted as saying:
“My eight-hour comment wasn’t a dig. It was just to make Dilip say that he will now also work for eight hours, when he actually only works for two! No one even knows that I was one of the first people to visit Deepika when Dua was born. Not everything is done for Instagram and the paps.”
Deepika Padukone responded to Farah Khan’s clarifications
Deepika’s response to Farah’s clarification was short but telling. She commented “Amen!” with a folded hands emoji on the Instagram post. The actress seemed to echo Farah’s frustration with unnecessary controversies over small things. Her reaction was enough to tell that there is no ill feeling among the two of them. There is still warmth between her and the filmmaker who gave her a dream debut in Om Shanti Om.

The origin of the ‘8-hour shift’ buzz
Farah has recently gained a whole lot of attention for her YouTube channel, where she and her cook, Dilip, visit different celebrity houses. The debate began when Farah, in her vlog, joked that Deepika only works eight hours a day now and therefore wouldn’t have time to appear on the show. The comment gained traction because it was tied to recent reports about Deepika’s demand for shorter work shifts after embracing motherhood.
Deepika welcomed her daughter, Dua, in September 2024, and soon after, she reportedly requested filmmakers to cap her working hours at seven to eight per day. Rumours suggest that she even walked away from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit because her demands weren’t being accommodated. Speculations also linked her exit from Kalki 2898 AD’s sequel to similar terms. Farah’s comment about the same was blown out of proportion but now both the ladies have clarified that there is no beef among them.
Farah not only launched Deepika with Om Shanti Om in 2007 but also directed her in 2014, Happy New Year. Deepika has often credited Farah for trusting her with such a significant debut alongside Shah Rukh Khan, and their long-standing relationship appears unaffected by social media gossip. While social media thrives on drama, Farah’s clarification and Deepika’s response have proven that not every comment carries hidden shade. Their friendship stands strong, reminding fans that sometimes, a joke is just a joke.
