This is a personal favourite because of its engaging story. Each character in the film takes one through a different experience and together they make a perfect combination. Bhaijaan was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for this one….

Kunwara Baap

This would be the pièce de résistance amongst the entire collection! Funny yet intense, playful yet sensitive…It was beyond concept and performance. Kunwara Baap was his silent conversation with his polio inflicted son Macky, an unfinished conversation, a silent submission to both son and destiny. Bhaijaan aimed to raise awareness about polio through the film, so that no parent or child would go through the helplessness caused by this avoidable condition.

Sabse Bada Rupaiya

Bhaijaan picked on a debatable subject, had the courage to highlight the practicality of materialism…. ‘Na biwi na bachcha, Na baap bada Na maiya’…. only Bhaijaan could sing his way through this thought provoking truth that prevails in abundance now more than ever.

Bombay to Goa

This one is one of the foremost in my personal favourites’ list! It has become a timeless evergreen comedy loved by audiences through the years. I learnt acting not just from Bhaijaan but Amitabh too! Before the shoot of the famous snake scene, I remember confiding in Amitabh that I was extremely scared of snakes and nervous about how I would perform as a result. Amitabh calmly said I didn’t have to do anything; the snake would do it all…. (laughs) Bhaijaan introduced so many characters, all with their own special contribution and still managed to deliver a stellar performance above all.

Bhoot Bangla

One of the foremost horror comedies of Hindi cinema if I’m not mistaken, Bhoot Bangla is a one of a kind Mehmood production! The story, the way it was shot, the characters, the background score all contributed to making it a super hit. Bhaijaan and Pancham da took comedy to another level altogether! Decades later, it is certainly a benchmark for the now common genre of horror comedies. Despite being out and out entertainers and rib tickling comedies, uniquely enough most of Bhaijaan’s films have an underlying message. A philosophy… a vision… a conversation and connect with the audience.
