However, not many know that her 2024 song, Messy was made after her bitter breakup.

Lola Young’s 2024 song, Messy went viral on TikTok, the diva herself was fed up of listening to her own song whenever she opened the app. However, not many know that she first wrote it as a demo while sitting in her bedroom amid a chaotic and messy breakup. Once, in an interaction, Lola revealed that her relationship was ending, and it was a closure for her. She said:
“My relationship was ending, and it was closure for me. Then I started to think about my relationship with myself.”
Lola Young took the demo to collaborators Solomonophonic and Connor Dickinson, and they began working on it at a production house in L.A. She stated that nobody realised whether it would work or not. She said:
“I don’t think anybody realized it It wasn’t like, ‘Oh, this is the hit.’ My label claims that they knew, but I don’t think anyone can ever know what’s going to work — and that’s no shade. We had a clear vision of what the sound was and what the singles were and what was going to be prioritized.”
Lola Young’s collapsing incident
On September 27, 2025, Lola Young suffered a medical emergency while she was singing Conceited at the New York City musical festival. She was carried off-stage by the medical team staff as the audience was left concerned about her health. After which Remi Wold appeared onstage and addressed the crowd about Lola’s health. She said, “That was really f—— scary. My friend Lola is backstage, and she is okay.”
It is worth mentioning that Lola Young had earlier discussed the tough few days, which made her feel like she couldn’t continue in life. But she woke up and made the decision to come and show off her cool side. She said:
“Sometimes life can really make you feel like you can’t continue, but you know what, today I woke up and I made the decision to come here, and I wanted to be cool … and sometimes life can throw you lemons, and you just gotta make lemonade.”
It is worth mentioning that Lola cancelled her performance, which was scheduled on September 26, 2025. Her manager, Nick Shymansky, revealed in an Instagram story that the musician had to pull out of the performance due to a sensitive matter. Shymansky added that Young’s cancellation could be tied to her mental health, which the star has been quite open about. He claimed that there are days when he had his team has to take protective measures to keep herself.
Lola Young’s health struggles
It was in 2022 when Lola opened up about her mental health and living with schizoaffective disorder. She revealed that she was diagnosed with it at the age of 17 in an Instagram post. She revealed that the diagnosis has affected her entire life and her outlook towards the world. She has struggled immensely while learning to accept a part of herself. Lola tries her best not to let the mental health struggle affect her normal life. She goes through immense highs and lows, and she was on medication to curb the symptoms.
