AMBALA: In another serious incident of security lapse, second in 45 days, one more inmate has fled from Central Jail Ambala on Saturday in broad daylight. Ajay Kumar, resident of Khajuri Bari, Tehragachh in Kishangarh police station area of Bihar state, has fled from the Central Jail Ambala, who was lodged in a case of sexually assaulting a minor girl. The Ambala police have registered a case at Baldev Nagar police station and started the investigation. Ajay was booked on March 17, 2024 at Mansa Devi Complex police station in Panchkula under serious charges of 363 (kidnapping), 366-A (procuration of minor girl), 376 (rape) of the IPC and POCSO Act.As per the information, when on Saturday, counting was done while closing the jail cells, Ajay Kumar was found missing. Upon checking the CCTV footage, it came to light that Ajay jumped over a small wall of the jail cells and climbed the 18-feet tall electricity poll and with the help of electricity wire, he crossed the higher outside boundary wall of jail and fled. In his complaint to the Ambala police, jail DSP said that on Saturday several electricity cuts were reported in the jail since morning. The accused took advantage of the situation and fled the jail.Ambala Central Jail SP Satvinder Godara said that an inmate has fled and a complaint has been lodged with the district police. He added that two officials are suspended, action has been recommended against a couple of more.Earlier, on August 13, two days before the Independence Day, another inmate Sukhbir alias Kalia of Bhawanipur village in Budaun district of Uttar Pradesh, had fled from Central Jail Ambala. Sukhbir is yet to be arrested and, in the meantime, another inmate has fled. Sukhbir was sent to this jail on August 12 only and he was found missing on August 13 evening. About Sukhbir, the police suspect that he fled by hiding inside an LPG gas cylinder delivery vehicle. In that case, two jail officials were suspended and a DSP was transferred. Despite that the security lapse has occurred once again.
