According to a report by The Daily Mail, Selena Gomez’s Only Murders in the Building family member, Meryl Streep, won’t be attending her big day. A source told the media house that the Oscar winner was “planning to attend but told Selena she now won’t be able to.” The actress has shared a close bond with Selena ever since they starred together in the Hulu show. While a reason wasn’t given at the time, Vogue captured Meryl dressed as ‘Miranda Priestly’ next to Stanley Tucci at Dolce & Gabbana’s Milan Fashion Week show on the same day as Selena’s wedding.
Why is Meryl Streep absent from Selena Gomez’s big day?
According to the reports, Only Murders in the Building star, Meryl Streep, had to prioritise the filming of her movie, Devil Wears Prada 2, over Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s big day due to her previous commitments. Vogue shared the video on Instagram, paying homage to the iconic film in the caption. Meryl has been booked and busy with the filming, which has also forced her to miss the Primetime Emmys earlier in September 2015. Nonetheless, Selena gave fans an update on her co-star’s relationship with Martin Short, thanks to an eagle-eyed attendee.
During a commercial break, their camera zoomed over to Selena Gomez, glancing over Steve Martin’s shoulder. She wanted to see what Martin was up to, since he was seated next to her. According to reports, the Wizards of Waverly Place star turned to Blanco and whispered, “He’s texting Meryl.” According to an old interview with Selena with the Hollywood Reporter, Meryl was extremely excited for the wedding. The singer-actor was quoted as saying:
“[Streep] was so excited, and when she came on set, she told everybody that she loves the show, and I don’t even think I spoke the first day she was around. I was just admiring her. She’s an inspiration, and she’s someone who is incredibly talented while being very humble, professional and kind. I’ve learned so much from her just by her being Meryl.”

Taylor Swift was earlier spotted arriving for Selena Gomez’s wedding. However, none of her pictures have been seen so far. The only assumed image of the I Can Do It With A Broken Heart star that has surfaced on the internet shows her hiding behind several umbrellas. Nonetheless, it seems like TayTay will be dancing at her bestie’s wedding alone as her fiancé, Travis Kelce, won’t be in attendance. The Kansas City Chiefs will host the Baltimore Ravens at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, September 28, 2025.
