Former leg spinner Amit Mishra has slammed the Indian team for their poor fielding in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025. India haven’t been at their best in the field during the Super 4 stages of the tournament as they dropped four catches in the all-important clash against Pakistan and further dropped five catches against Bangladesh.
The Indian ground fielding also wasn’t at its best in the last Super 4 fixture against Sri Lanka as fielders made several fumbles in the field under pressure, allowing batters to take easy twos. India spinner Varun Chakravarthy revealed that they’ve struggled to spot the ball under the ring of fire, which has led to several dropped chances. Recently, Amit Mishra slammed players for their consistent poor show in the field and asked what the fielding coach is doing?
“You should practice. What is the fielding coach doing? He should make them practice taking catches under the light. You are professional cricketers. You have to work hard and adjust to it. I agree that one or two dropped catches can happen in a match. But it has been happening consistently. I think Gautam Gambhir needs to focus on fielding,” Mishra said while speaking exclusively to ANI.
Furthermore, he also stated how dropping catches can prove costly to the team, as they can’t afford any slip ups in the final against Pakistan.
“In T20Is, dropping one catch can prove costly, and the Indian team is dropping three to four catches. They need to focus on fielding. There should be no margin of error in the final against Pakistan. Even if there is a problem, you should find a solution to it,” he added.
India and Pakistan are set to lock horns for the third time in the tournament on Sunday, September 28 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The Men in Blue have beaten their arch-rivals in both meetings in the tournament so far and will look to continue their dominant record. On the other hand, Pakistan have only lost to India in the tournament and will look to avenge their last two losses against the arch rivals to clinch their third Asia Cup title.
