Xiaomi EV has announced the launch of its first European research and development (R&D) and design center in Munich, Germany, marking a significant step in the company’s global expansion strategy.
The Munich facility is Xiaomi’s first facility outside of China and will serve as a hub for performance vehicle projects, EV technology development, and design innovation, strengthening the company’s commitment to the international automotive market.
Why Munich?
Strategically located in one of Europe’s leading automotive engineering and design hubs, the new centre will enable Xiaomi to leverage world-class expertise and infrastructure. The facility is set to focus on intelligent driving systems, vehicle dynamics, next-generation EV platforms, and customer-focused design.
Xiaomi EV highlighted that the center will bring together engineers, designers, and researchers who will work closely with global teams. The company also plans to collaborate with research institutions and industry partners, fostering innovation in areas such as autonomous driving, ethical AI, and ecosystem integration.
By investing in international talent, Xiaomi aims to build an open, forward-looking innovation culture that accelerates breakthroughs in smart mobility.
Strengthening global strategy
The opening of the Munich R&D and design centre comes on the back of Xiaomi’s successful launches of the SU7, SU7 Ultra, and YU7 models in China. The facility also aligns with the company’s long-term “Human x Car x Home” ecosystem strategy, which integrates smart living, connected mobility, and intelligent devices.
With this expansion, Xiaomi EV is laying the foundation for its entry into the European market in 2027, while reinforcing its ambition to become a global leader in smart mobility solutions.
