Xiaomi has launched its latest flagship series. The Xiaomi 17 series includes the base Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. If you are wondering why these names sound similar, the Chinese phonemaker had previously stated its intentions to compete directly against the iPhone 17 series. However, the Xiaomi 17 series does not rely on just the name, the devices do pack a punch.

The most prominent feature in Xiaomi’s flagship devices is the secondary rear display, called the ‘Dynamic Back Display.’ This display is available only on the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. The display fills the entirety of the camera module, which otherwise looks similar to the camera plateau in the iPhone 17 Pro models.

Xioami first tried a rear display all the way back in 2021 with the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra. The display on the Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max is much bigger than the one on the Mi 11. In the 17 Pro, it is a 2.7-inch unit with a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of up to 3,500 nits. The 17 Pro Max gets a slightly larger 2.9-inch rear screen.

Users can utilise this display for a host of different tasks, be it music playback, countdown timers, messages, calls, and other notifications. Additionally, you can even click selfies from the main camera with this screen serving as the viewfinder. As such, this can allow for even 8K selfie videos through the primary rear sensor.

Xiaomi brings Gameboy-esque case to Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max

The Chinese phonemaker is keen on making this display a standout feature for the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. Xiaomi is also selling a special case with gaming controls on the back, allowing users to turn their device into a portable console. Perhaps, giving off some Game Boy vibes.

    Xiaomi 17 series, what’s new?

The dynamic back display is not the only talking point for the Xiaomi 17 series. The three devices are powered by the newly launched Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, making the 17 series the first smartphones to use Qualcomm’s latest flagship processor.

The base 17 and the 17 Pro get a 6.3-inch AMOLED LTPO panel with 1-120Hz refresh rate. The screens have a peak brightness of 3,500 nits with DC dimming for lower levels. The 17 Pro Max gets a larger 6.9-inch unit.

    Xiaomi 17

The vanilla Xiaomi 17 gets a 50-megapixel triple camera with Leica branding. The setup includes a main sensor, an ultrawide, and a floating telephoto lens. The 17 Pro and Pro Max use the same main and ultrawide sensors, but have a different 5x telephoto.

The Xiaomi 17 packs a massive 7,000mAh battery with support for 100W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging. The 17 Pro gets a small 6,300mAh battery, but the 17 Pro Max gets a whopping 7,500mAh unit. The Pro models come with the same charging speeds as the base 17.

Xiaomi 17 series price and launch in India

Xiaomi has not given any information for an India launch yet, with the 17 series only being announced for China for now. However, a global release is expected in early 2026.

There are no details available for the prices of the Xiaomi 17 devices in India as of now. In China, the base 17 starts at 4,499 Yuan (roughly Rs 56,000), with the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max starting at 4,999 Yuan (roughly Rs 62,000) and 5,999 Yuan (roughly Rs 74,500) respectively.
