In a landmark moment for Indian and Punjabi cinema, Diljit Dosanjh has earned his first International Emmy nomination recognised for his lead performance in Amar Singh Chamkila while the film itself has also been shortlisted in the TV Movie / Mini-series category. The nominations were announced on September 25 by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, setting the stage for a global celebration of regional storytelling.

Speaking exclusively with Hindustan Times, Diljit called, “This is such a big moment,” and said, “And not just for me, but Amar Singh Chamkila, an artist from Punjab who is being celebrated on the global stage.” He further reflected, “I feel truly honoured Amar Singh Chamkila, an artist from Punjab, is being recognised and talked about at a global level on such a prestigious stage like the International Emmys. This nomination is not just for me, but for the entire legacy of Chamkila. I am grateful to Imtiaz Ali Sir for choosing me for the role.”
Amar Singh Chamkila dramatizes the life of the iconic Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila and his wife Amarjot Kaur, whose careers were cut tragically short in 1988. The film, released on Netflix in April 2024, was directed by Imtiaz Ali and co-written with Sajid Ali. The project has already earned acclaim in India, including at the 2024 Filmfare OTT Awards, where it won multiple top honours.
The 53rd International Emmy Awards are scheduled for November 24, 2025 in New York City. As Indian content continues to gain traction on the global stage, Amar Singh Chamkila’s dual nods underscore the power of regional narratives making waves beyond their origins.
