In a candid revelation, actor Bobby Deol has admitted that he once battled a deep-seated inferiority complex during a difficult phase in his career. Speaking on Raj Shamani’s podcast, the actor spoke openly about his insecurities and the emotional toll they took on him.
Bobby Deol reveals his battle with inferiority complex during career slump; says, “Failure has made me realise that nothing should be taken for granted”
He recalled how his wife would confront him, asking, “Why do you think so little of yourself?” He went on to explain, “During those five to six years, I genuinely didn’t think highly of myself. Even at parties, I would stay in a corner, avoid the spotlight. I felt like no one really wanted to talk to me or give me any importance. Jab main jaata tha, mujhe waise bhi importance nahi milti thi. I would just stand there. If someone happened to come by, I’d say hello. But I’d notice how people always hovered around those they thought were important. It used to affect me.”
Despite this difficult period, Bobby said the experience taught him hard lessons about humility and impermanence. He reflected, “Failure has made me realise that nothing should be taken for granted. Success came to me, and then it was gone. If I ever let it get to my head again, it’ll slip away and hurt even more the next time.”
Bobby Deol, son of the legendary actor Dharmendra, made his debut in 1995 with Barsaat, which earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Debut. He delivered several hits in Bollywood during the late 1990s and early 2000s, including Gupt, Soldier, Ajnabee, and Humraaz.
However, from the mid-2000s onward, his career faced a slump with fewer offers and setbacks. In more recent years, he has bounced back strongly with acclaimed performances in series and films including Aashram, Class of ’83, Love Hostel, Animal, and The Ba***ds of Bollywood the latter earning him considerable praise.
Looking ahead, Bobby is slated to appear in Alpha, opposite Alia Bhatt and Sharvari. The film, produced by Yash Raj Films, is scheduled for theatrical release on 25 December 2025.
