For the unversed, Yuvraj is the son of the former Indian cricketer, Yograj Singh. Coming to his personal front, Yuvraj is married to Bodyguard fame, Hazel Keech. The duo tied the knot in 2016. In a candid conversation, Yuvraj’s father, Yograj Singh, made a shocking statement about his son’s wife, Hazel, and also discussed his relationship with her.

In a recent chat with Krishnank Atrey, Yuvraj’s father, Yograj recalled how society urged him to get his son married, when he was in his 20s. However, Yograj disapproved of the idea of the marriage at the time and wanted his son, Yuvraj, to focus on cricket. When Yuvraj turned 38, Yograj told his son that he could now consider marriage. In his words:
“People wanted me to marry Yuvraj off in his 20s. I said, ‘Is he old already?’ When he turned 38, I told him, ‘Now you can think about it. I can’t choose for you. It’s your life, so find your partner.'”

In the same conversation, Yograj shared that although he told his son, Yuvraj, to choose his life partner, he made one request to him. He expressed that, hearing his wish, people might judge or oppose it, but he wanted an Irish or English girl in his family. For the uninitiated, Yograj’s daughter-in-law, Hazel, is half-British and half-Mauritian. Yograj was quoted as saying:
“I did request him to change the breed. People hearing this might oppose it, but we wanted an Irish or English girl in the family. And then Hazel (Keech) came into our lives.”

In the same conversation, Yograj mentioned his grandchildren, who treat him like a friend. For those unaware, Yuvraj and Hazel welcomed two children, a son, Orion and a daughter, Aura. Yograj addressed his grandchildren, Orion and Aura, as ‘beautiful’. Sharing a glimpse about his equation with Hazel, Yograj said that he doesn’t call her his daughter-in-law, but rather calls her his daughter.

Further in the conversation, Yograj talked about the criticism he faced as he pushed his son hard for the cricket practice. He shared that Yuvraj too gave him names like ‘Hitler’ and ‘Dragon’. He recalled how he encouraged Yuvraj to play the World Cup when he was battling cancer. For the uninitiated, in 2011, Yuvraj was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called mediastinal seminoma. Recalling the moment, Yograj said:
“When I pushed him, people called me names. Even my son called me Hitler and Dragon. I made him play the World Cup even when he was battling cancer. I told him, ‘Even if I lose you in this process, I will be a proud father who carried his son on his shoulders and lit his pyre.’ He passed every test I gave him. I still keep the T-shirt stained with his blood as a reminder that my son bled for his country.”
