Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third instalment of the Avatar franchise, is scheduled to hit the big screens by the end of 2025. For the unversed, James Cameron’s blockbuster franchise’s third instalment, Avatar: Fire and Ash, is all set to release on December 19, 2025. Earlier in July 2025, the makers released the first trailer, which made fans excited for the upcoming sequel. Now, the makers have released a brand new trailer ahead of its highly anticipated release in December.
Avatar: Fire and Ash‘s new trailer hints at betrayal, alliances and shocking twists
The trailer kicks off with ‘Varang’, the leader of the Ash People, also known as the Mangkwan Clan. Narrating her backstory, she said, “This is the only purest thing in this world. The fire came from the mountain. Burnt our forests. My people cried for help, but Eywa did not come.” For the uninitiated, Eywa is the spiritual force of Pandora. This creates the major conflict in the world of Pandora. Another shocking twist comes with ‘Spider’, a human boy raised on Pandora. He had a drastic transformation after connecting with Eywa. He can now breathe without a mask. He has also developed a Na’vi-like ability to bond with animals.
He is now half-human and half Na’vi. Circumstances lead him to choose between his human father, ‘Quaritch’, and his adopted Na’vi family. ‘Neytiri’, ‘Jake Sully’s’ wife, is also shown with war paint in the Ash People’s colours, sparking doubts about whether she is on an undercover mission or has actually changed sides. Later, she is shown to be badly injured in the fierce battle, leaving her fate uncertain. ‘Kiri’, ‘Jake’s’ daughter, displays even more mysterious powers, strengthening her bond with nature. Meanwhile, ‘Varang’ and ‘Quaritch’ joined hands to form a dangerous partnership, hinting at an even deadlier threat.
Avatar: Fire and Ash trailer’s major highlight
The major highlight in the trailer is the return of the Toruk, also called the Great Leonopteryx. This massive flying creature is considered the king of the skies on Pandora, and anyone who can successfully bond with one, earns the legendary title of Toruk Makto, just as ‘Jake Sully’ did in the 2009 film. Fans were disappointed when ‘Jake’s Toruk didn’t return in the second instalment, The Way of Water. However, the makers brought a major twist in the plot by bringing back the star of the film, Toruk Makto. ‘Jake’ reunites with his powerful companion and strikes down RDA ships.

Netizens’ reaction to Avatar: Fire and Ash‘s new trailer
Soon after the new trailer was released, fans flooded the comment section. Lauding the filmmaker, James Cameron, a user wrote, “Imagine the theatre experience. Another masterpiece from James Cameron.” Another user commented, “Now that’s how you make a trailer, you give people a taste, get them excited and curious without giving away the story. Can’t wait to see what James Cameron has in store.” However, it was Toruk Makto’s return that stole the spotlight. A user wrote, “Jake is back as Toruk Makto. Damn this movie about to be so good.” Another user commented, “I literally screamed with happiness that toruk is back!” Another user penned, “OMG!!! Toruk Makto is finally here… After all these years we’ll witness the true might of Toruk Makto! Now, I’m so HYPED UP for this… “
