My first memory of the Ather 450 dates back to 2019. I say that because the pre-COVID world seems like a different era, and I recall heading to Lower Parel to ride this much-talked-about electric scooter. I distinctly remember its light blue, almost lime-ish colour, and riding in and around the mills. There was an instant connection, and from then on, I always held Ather in high regard. Since then, I’ve ridden most of the Athers. Whether it was the Rizta, 450, 450X or even the Apex, they all have a level of quality that I’ve come to appreciate. Whether it’s hardware or software, Ather strikes a nice balance. I’m just as thrilled now as I was first when the 450X arrived in the AT fleet.
There’s no doubt about the fact that it is one of the preferred two-wheelers from our long-term garage, especially for shorter stints. Its 111.6kg kerb weight is fairly light, and it’s a joy to take to the shops for the weekly run. Mind you, the 22-litre underseat storage may not accommodate all the shopping, but the seat is another story. It’s fairly large, ergonomically sound and has decent cushioning. In our daily runs, it’s proved to be comfortable, and it isn’t what most of us expected from the 450X, due to its sportier nature compared to the family-oriented Rizta. The 170mm of ground clearance isn’t too bad either, and I thoroughly look forward to getting more kilometres on the 450X.
