NEW DELHI: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday declared that his party is “ready for alliance with RJD,” sending a formal letter to Bihar’s leader of opposition Tejashwi Yadav seeking entry into the Mahagathbandhan ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. These remarks come as Owaisi began his Bihar campaign with the four-day “Seemanchal Nyay Yatra” from September 24 to 27, touring the Seemanchal region. Addressing a rally in Bihar’s Kishanganj district Owaisi said, “Akhtarul Iman has written a letter to the LoP here (Tejashwi Yadav) and we have said through media that AIMIM is ready for alliance.”He further said that the party has demanded 6 seats” but also emphasised that, “it is not up to them to decide.“If they do not do this, people of Bihar will see who wants to make the BJP succeed and who wants to stop them. So, the decision is upto the people of Bihar. We have shouldered our responsibility,” the Hyderabad MP added.During the yatra, the Hyderabad MP will hold roadshows and corner meetings in multiple Assembly constituencies, highlighting regional backwardness and development issues. The AIMIM chief has also introduced a private member’s bill in the Lok Sabha seeking the creation of a ‘Seemanchal Region Development Council’ under Article 371 of the Constitution to address the area’s developmental challenges. In the 2020 Bihar elections, AIMIM contested 20 Assembly constituencies and won five, all in Seemanchal. Ahead of the 2025 polls, the party is expected to contest even more seats, signaling its growing ambitions in the state. The four-day yatra and alliance talks with the RJD come at a crucial time as AIMIM looks to expand its footprint beyond its traditional stronghold in Seemanchal, aiming to play a decisive role in Bihar’s electoral dynamics.
