The absence of the necklace sparked curiosity online, with many wondering why Janhvi chose not to wear the same piece of jewellery. According to reports, the reason is both sentimental and rooted in industry tradition.
Years ago, Sridevi had gifted the Polki necklace—crafted by Sabyasachi—to actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. This was part of a long-standing tradition in the South Indian film industry, where senior actors often present newcomers with personal items as tokens of encouragement. At the time, Aishwarya was making her debut with Mani Ratnam’s Iruvar in 1997 and affectionately referred to Sridevi as “akka,” meaning elder sister.
Following Sridevi’s passing in 2018, the necklace found its way into the spotlight again. Aishwarya Rai wore it to Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal’s high-profile wedding, pairing it with a red silk Banarasi saree by Sabyasachi. She completed the look with traditional gajra, a sleek bun, and sindoor—making the heirloom piece a centerpiece once more.
While Janhvi’s choice not to wear the necklace may have disappointed some fans hoping for an exact recreation of Sridevi’s look, the emotional value and symbolic history of the necklace perhaps made it more fitting for its current keeper.
