After receiving the Padma Shri and making history with an International Emmy, Ekta Kapoor has now added a National Film Award to her growing list of career milestones.

For over three decades, Ekta Kapoor has played a key role in shaping Indian entertainment. She began her journey in television, where her shows not only dominated primetime slots but also became part of everyday conversations. Titles like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, and the Naagin franchise helped cement her place as one of the most influential creators in Indian TV long before digital platforms entered the picture.
In 2020, she was honoured with the Padma Shri, one of India’s highest civilian awards, for her contribution to the arts. Then in 2023, she became the first Indian woman producer to win the International Emmy Directorate Award—another significant achievement that highlighted her impact beyond national borders.
Now in 2025, Ekta Kapoor has received her first National Film Award for the satirical comedy Kathal: A Jackfruit Mystery. Produced in collaboration with Guneet Monga and Netflix, the film won in the Best Hindi Film category. The recognition not only solidifies her presence in the film industry but also showcases her continued support for unique storytelling and emerging talent.
Looking ahead, Ekta Kapoor continues to explore new creative avenues. She is backing Bhooth Bangla, which reunites Akshay Kumar with director Priyadarshan, and is also producing VVAN, her first collaboration with TVF, starring Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia. In addition, she remains committed to revisiting classic television hits like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi for new formats. With her recent National Award win, Kapoor’s legacy only grows stronger—proof of her ability to adapt, lead, and elevate Indian storytelling across mediums.
