Former India cricketer Dinesh Karthik is all set to lead India in the Hong Kong Sixes tournament 2025. Karthik announced his retirement from all forms of Indian cricket in 2024 and currently serves as the batting coach of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The wicketkeeper batter will now return to the field to lead India in the Hong Kong Sixes. Karthik’s sharp leadership skills and explosive batting will be of great value to the Indian team in the upcoming event.
“We are proud to welcome Dinesh Karthik as the Captain of Team India for the Hong Kong Sixes 2025. With his vast international experience, sharp leadership skills, and explosive batting, Dinesh will bring both inspiration and intensity to the tournament. His appointment reflects the spirit of the Sixes — fearless, entertaining, and world-class. Join us from 7–9 November in Hong Kong as we host a global celebration of cricket,” posted Hong Kong cricket on their X account.
Speaking at his appointment, Karthik said that it’s a huge honour for him to lead the Indian side and will aim to play fearless and entertaining cricket.
“It is an absolute honour leading Team India at the Hong Kong Sixes, a tournament with such rich history and global recognition. I look forward to lead a group of players who have such incredible records to their credit, and together we will aim to bring joy to the fans and play cricket that is both fearless and entertaining,” said Karthik in a media release.
Meanwhile, apart from him, Ravichandran Ashwin will also be playing in the tournament, which will mark his first appearance on the cricket field after announcing retirement from the IPL. India didn’t have a memorable outing in the last edition of Hong Kong Sixes in 2024, as they got knocked out in the first stage itself, having lost all of their matches under Robin Uthappa’s leadership. The Hong Kong Sixes 2025 will be held at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground from November 7 to 9.
