Around 150 to 200 people fell ill after consuming buckwheat flour, commonly known as kuttu ka atta, in several parts of Delhi on Tuesday, police said. The patients are not serious and are reported to be stable.

Police received information at 6:10 am about many people reporting uneasiness and vomiting after consuming buckwheat flour.

The affected people were rushed to the BJRM Hospital and police informed the food department about the issue, the hospital’s Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Vishesh Yadav said.

The affected individuals were primarily from the localities of Jahangirpuri, Mahendra Park, Samaypur, Bhalswa Dairy, Lal Bagh and Swaroop Nagar.

All the patients were found to be stable and none of them required admission, the CMO said, adding that doctors did not find anyone to be in serious condition.

The food department is conducting a thorough investigation into the source and quality of the buckwheat flour consumed by the affected residents.
