Actor Ranbir Kapoor has come under the radar for his appearance in Aryan Khan’s show ‘The Ba***s of Bollywood’. The superstar features in a short sequence in the last episode of the series directed by Aryan Khan. The National Human Rights Commission believes that his portrayal of a character using a vape could mislead viewers and promote the use of e-cigarettes. But what exactly happens in the scene? And is it a significant part of the show?
Ranbir appears for only a few minutes in Episode 7 of the series, titled ‘Picture Ka Title Hoga…’. He drops by Karan Johar’s office to discuss the appointment of his new manager. Here’s how the scene progresses:
At the Dharma Productions office in Mumbai, Johar calls Sanya, Aasmaan’s manager, to discuss a new opportunity. He tries to persuade her to leave Aasmaan, given all the controversies surrounding him, and explore better and bigger prospects in the industry. Johar also appreciates Sanya’s skills, recalling how she once convinced him to cast Aasmaan in a big-budget film bankrolled by him.
As Johar continues, Ranbir enters the room in his laid-back style. He and Johar greet each other with their casual expletive-filled banter before the superstar takes a seat. A surprised Sanya tells him that she’s a big fan. Ranbir thanks her and extends his hand. Thinking he’s greeting her out of courtesy, Sanya shakes it – only for him to clarify: “Hi. The vape….”
Sanya hands over the vape, and Ranbir casually takes a puff before offering her the position of his manager. Shocked, she politely declines. Johar turns to Kapoor and quips, “Is that the first time a girl has turned you down?” The actor theatrically puts a hand on his heart and replies, “So, this is how it feels?”
As Sanya leaves, Kapoor returns the vape, but she refuses to take it back. She walks out, and the actor admires her loyalty towards Aasmaan.
That’s it – that’s the scene.
Its significance lies in highlighting the bond between two people who started out together and refused to part ways, even in difficult times.
Ranbir Kapoor’s cameo is just as engaging and relevant as those of several others in the series. Karan Johar, Ranveer Singh, Aamir Khan, SS Rajamouli, Shah Rukh Khan, Sara Ali Khan, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Maheep Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao are among the many stars who make appearances in the Netflix show.
‘The Ba***s of Bollywood’ marks Aryan Khan’s directorial debut and is a one-of-its-kind series based on the Hindi film industry. It is currently streaming on Netflix.
