The annual United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) season has begun in New York, and this year’s opening featured a notable Indian presence. Actors and advocates Sanjana Sanghi and Dia Mirza took part in several high-level engagements, reinforcing their growing roles as changemakers beyond the world of cinema.

Sanjana Sanghi, the UNDP India Youth Champion, represented India not only as a young actor but as an active voice for youth advocacy. In recognition of her ongoing efforts, the United Nations Youth Office invited her to serve on the Distinguished Judges Panel for the fifth cohort of the Young Leaders for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) program. This selection highlights the UN’s continued trust in her commitment to youth-led development. She will be part of the team that identifies and supports young changemakers from around the world.

Earlier in September 2024, Sanjana delivered a keynote address at the opening ceremony of the Summit of the Future Action Days, held at the iconic UN General Assembly Hall. As the youngest Indian actress to serve as the UNDP India Youth Champion and address the UN in this capacity, her speech emphasized the importance of involving the world’s largest youth population in meaningful development conversations.
Meanwhile, Dia Mirza, an award-winning actor, producer, and long-standing environmental advocate, continued her international work as the UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador and UN Secretary-General’s Advocate for the SDGs. She remains a prominent voice for climate action, sustainability, and environmental justice on the global stage.

Together, Sanjana Sanghi and Dia Mirza’s presence at this year’s UNGA events reflects a broader shift—one where Indian public figure is increasingly taking on roles as global advocates. Their participation showcases how Indian talent continues to contribute meaningfully to conversations around sustainable development and social impact.
