After its recent screening at the Chicago South Asian Film Festival, the feature film Mercy is continuing its festival journey across international platforms. The film will next be presented at the Love and Hope International Film Festival in Barcelona, where it has secured nominations for Best Film and Best Actor (Raj Vasudeva). Following that, Mercy is set to travel to the London Independent Film Festival.
Adil Hussain reacts on Mercy heading to Barcelona and London after Chicago screening; says, “I am humbled to see it crossing continents”
The film has been steadily building its profile at global events, with previous screenings at the UK Asian Film Festival, the Indian International Film Festival Stuttgart, and the Indian Festival of Melbourne. Its first international showcase came at the Cannes Film Festival with the trailer launch earlier this year.
Directed by debutant Mitul Patel, Mercy focuses on themes of love, grief, and acceptance, telling the story of a family navigating the painful reality of parting with a loved one. The cast includes Raj Vasudeva, Niharica Raizada, Aparna Ghoshal, and Kunal Bhan, with Adil Hussain in a special role as Father Joel.
Lead actor and producer Raj Vasudeva addressed the reception the film has received so far, saying, “I feel truly overwhelmed by the love and encouragement audiences have given us at every festival so far. To see people connect so deeply with Shekhar’s journey is humbling. Every kind word, every tear, strengthens our conviction to keep telling stories that matter.”
Adil Hussain also reflected on his experience, commenting, “I am humbled to see Mercy crossing continents. Every film teaches us something new and this is no different, Mercy holds a special place in my heart as it comes from the depth of belonging, love and despair which gives all characters the depth to dig deep in the sea of emotions like never before. It’s in those fragile moments you understand how a choice can turn around the fate of your and loved ones’ lives. Can’t wait for all to feel what we felt while making this when it releases worldwide.”
Produced under the Everclear Films banner by Raj Vasudeva and Anuradha Sachdev, Mercy follows their earlier project Forbidden, a short film on honour killings that was showcased at more than 30 international festivals.
