India captain Suryakumar Yadav added salt to Pakistan’s wounds after a commanding win over Salman Ali Agha’s men in their Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 match in Dubai on Sunday. When asked to reflect on Pakistan’s performance and the state of the historic rivalry, Suryakumar had a blunt message to a reporter during the post-match press conference.
“To this question, I want to say one thing. I feel you all should stop asking questions about this India vs Pakistan rivalry,” Suryakumar said, holding nothing back in his response to a senior Pakistani journalist.

“According to me, if two teams are playing 15-20 matches and the scoreline is 7-7, or 8-7, then you can call it good cricket, you call it rivalry. If it’s 13-0, 10-1, I am not sure what the stat is. But, this is not a rivalry any more. I feel we played better cricket than them between 7-15, and we bowled better also,” he said.
Suryakumar had brushed aside talks of rivalry ahead of the Super 4 clash in Dubai, but he doubled down, delivering a statement that is likely to echo for ages. Few captains in the past have been so candid about the increasingly lopsided nature of the historic contest between the two teams. Yet, after making light work of Pakistan twice in just eight days, Suryakumar seemed to be singing what could well be the funeral dirge of the once-fierce rivalry.
In the last 15 years, India have dominated Pakistan, winning 23 of their 31 meetings. Their loses have come on off-days when Pakistan have punched above their weight.
