Rituparna Sengupta is one of the most phenomenal actresses in the Bengali film industry. She has also worked in Odia and Hindi films. Over the years, she won numerous accolades, including a National Award, two Filmfare Awards, four BFJA Awards and four Anandalok Awards. Coming to her personal front, she is married to Sanjay Chakraborty and a mother of two children. However, in November 2024, the National Award-winning actress experienced a personal loss. For the unversed, Rituparna lost her mother on November 23, 2024, who had battled with kidney and age-related problems. Now, on the occasion of Mahalaya, the actress got emotional.
Rituparna Sengupta recalls puja moments spent with her mom
In a recent interview with Anandabazar.com, Rituparna recalled the puja moments that she used to spend with her mom. This year, it will be her first Durga Puja after losing her mom. Rituparna mentioned that she used to spend the four days of puja in her community hall, enjoying the festivities by eating some tasty food. This was a special moment for her mom, who used to wait for it every year. She shared that they used to watch different puja programs and have a good time. They also enjoyed listening to the dhak. Recalling the special puja moments, Rituparna said:
“Ma waited for me as I used to spend the four days of puja with her in our community hall and enjoy tasty foods. We used to watch various puja programs together. We used to love listening to the dhak. Mother used to adore the little ones. I will now remember these things again and again.”
Rituparna Sengupta gets emotional remembering her mom
In the same interview, Rituparna shared that, due to her very tight work schedule, she has little time to spend with her family. So, during the time of Durga Puja, her mom had only one question: when would she come back home? Grieving her mother’s absence, Rituparna said that now there is no one whom she can address as mom. She also got emotional, recalling a special moment she used to share with her mom. Rituparna shared that every year, her mom used to gift her a saree and give her many options, which included her favourite colour sarees. In her words:
“During the Puja, my mother had only one question: When will I come? Now, there is no one I can call ‘mom.’ My mother used to ask which colour saree I liked, by giving me many options. Now I will never get a saree from her.”
Rituparna Sengupta shares that she is not ready to perform tarpan
Further in the interview, Rituparna was asked whether she would perform tarpan from now on. She shared that after her father, Prabir Kumar Sengupta, passed away in 2010, due to multiple organ failure, it was her brother who used to perform tarpan. However, as her mother’s death is still a disbelief to her, she is not ready to perform tarpan. She was quoted as saying:
“My brother used to do it after my father passed away. Tarpan refers to the offering of water to the ancestors. I still can’t think about it; my mother is gone. So I can’t think about tarpan.”
