Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will meet with US President Donald Trump alongside a select group of Muslim leaders on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, officials announced Sunday.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to visit the United States from September 22 to 26, leading a delegation that includes Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, other ministers, and senior officials. The visit’s main purpose is to participate in the UNGA annual session.

According to a statement from the Foreign Office (FO), Prime Minister Sharif will engage in a special meeting with President Trump and Islamic leaders to discuss pressing regional and international issues related to peace and security.

In his address to the General Assembly, Sharif is expected to urge the global community to resolve “prolonged” conflicts, with a particular focus on the grave humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He will call for decisive international action to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.

The Prime Minister will also present Pakistan’s perspective on regional security challenges, alongside key global concerns such as climate change, terrorism, Islamophobia, and sustainable development.

During the UNGA session, Sharif will attend several high-level events, including meetings of the UN Security Council, the Global Development Initiative (GDI), and a Special High-Level Event on Climate Action. He will also hold bilateral talks with various world leaders and senior UN officials to exchange views on matters of mutual interest.

Highlighting Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism, Sharif will reaffirm the country’s dedication to upholding the UN Charter, preventing conflict, fostering peace, and promoting global prosperity, especially in light of Pakistan’s current role as a member of the UN Security Council.

“The Prime Minister’s participation in this largest annual gathering of global leaders will showcase Pakistan’s strong commitment to the United Nations and its longstanding contributions to peace and development worldwide,” the FO statement concluded.
